Should I uninstall HotFixes before upgrading?

We have an IBM Lotus Domino server running on a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit host.

Domino is R8.5.3 with FixPack 2 and Hotfix 23

It's also running Traveler 8.5.3

We'll be upgrading to IBM Domino 9.0.1 and Traveler 9.0.1 in the next few days.

Do I have to uninstall R8.5.3 FixPack 2 and HF23 (taking Domino back to R8.5.3) before attempting to install Domino 9.0.1?

Or is the installer smart enough to know how to upgrade from the patched version I'm currently running.

I know that back in the "olden days" of R4 and R5, it made sense to uninstall HotFixes and FixPacks before a major upgrade installation was attempted.

Not sure if this is still suggested.

Please advise.

Up to you

The installer is smart enough to install over  fp and hot fixes but if you feel better to uninstall first  you can.
